Our programs in Workforce Development and Livelihood Enhancement aim to develop self-reliant individuals and healthy communities. We place special emphasis on our work with women-farmers, as a key to sustainable development in rural communities.
International Foundation for Education & Self-Help
In establishing IFESH in 1981, Reverend Sullivan set out to assist African nations in their efforts to eradicate poverty, disease and inequity through self-help partnership programs, which continues to be our mission. We currently operate and support projects in 12 sub-Saharan African countries including Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Ghana, Guinea, Ethiopia, Kenya,
Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.
Progress Investment Associates, Inc.
Established in 1968 by the for-profit Progress Investment Association (PIA), Progress Plaza claims distinction as the country’s oldest African-American-owned and developed shopping center. In 2009, the 65,000 square feet complex completed an $18 million re-development and remains a centerpiece of pride to the residents of North Philadelphia and the legacy of economic development fostered by Reverend Leon Sullivan.
Leon H. Sullivan Charitable Trust
The Mission of the Leon H. Sullivan Charitable Trust is to create economic and community development opportunities, by using our resources to advocate on behalf of impoverished people based on Reverend Leon H. Sullivan’s principles of self help, social responsibility and human rights.

Established in 2002 to honor the legacy of Leon H. Sullivan, we endeavor to bring the corporate and governmental communities together for the economic benefit of all, and invite businesses and individuals to create partnerships with Africa with our ultimate goal being a peaceful, prosperous, and powerful Africa.
